Eventail appelé "Marugame Uchiwa" fabriqué à Marugame, sur l'île de shikoku, dans la préfecture de Kagawa. La particularité des éventails de Marugame est que leur structure centrale n'est faite que d'un seul morceau de bambou taillé très finement en lamelles, tenues par un fil et tendues par un arc de bambou. J'aime particulièrement le motif de celui-ci, créé par des gouttes d'eau sur du papier washi teinté et son manche recouvert de laque couleur rouille. 

Au début de la période Edo (1603-1868), les premiers  Marugame Uchiwa ont été fabriqués comme souvenirs pour les pèlerins du sanctuaire de Konpira. Au fur et à mesure, les uchiwas ont aussi servis comme support publicitaire, puis ont été exporté en Inde, aux Etats-Unis, et des machines ont été inventées pour faciliter la fabrication. Leur production a atteint un sommet entre 1955 et 1964, après quoi le Japon a adopté les ventilateurs électriques et la climatisation. Pourtant, le uchiwa est toujours considéré comme l'un des grands métiers d'art au Japon et adulé par les personnes qui apprécient les pièces authentiques, faites mains avec des matériaux nobles et naturels.

Fan called "Marugame Uchiwa" made in Marugame, Shikoku Island, Kagawa Prefecture. The particularity of the Marugame fans is that their central structure is made of only one piece of bamboo sliced very finely into strips, held by a thread and stretched by a bamboo bow. I especially love the pattern on this one, created by water drops on dyed washi paper and its handle covered in rust-colored lacquer.

In the early Edo period (1603-1868), the first Marugame Uchiwa were made as souvenirs for pilgrims to Konpira Shrine. Gradually, the uchiwas were also used as an advertising medium, then were exported to India, the United States, and machines were invented to facilitate the manufacturing. Their production peaked between 1955 and 1964, after which Japan adopted electric fans and air conditioning. However, the uchiwa is still considered one of the great crafts in Japan and adored by people who appreciate authentic pieces, handmade with highe-end natural materials.
